My Work with People Engaged in Their Battle with Addiction
Dr. Scott Little
I have a passion for helping people in their battle with addictions. By helping the addict to stay clean and sober, we not only help to give them their life back, but help to restore life to a family and the community.
A logical question might be, "How could a chiropractor help someone with addictions?" Good question. Actually, chiropractic has a rich history of caring for people with addictions and psychological conditions such as schizophrenia. Several chiropractic hospitals and sanitariums existed in the U.S. from the 1920's through the 60's.
In 1998, I began special post-grad training through the American College of Addictionology and Compulsive Disorders. The program was designed to train chiropractors and other professionals to work together for the common good of the patient. Chiropractors as non-drup physicians have a great deal to offer the patient to support his long-term recovery.
IT MUST BE EMPHASISED THAT CHIROPRACTIC IS NOT A TREATMENT FOR, NOR DOES CHIROPRACTIC PROMISE A CURE FOR THE DISEASE OF ADDICTION, or any other disease for that matter.
The objective of the Neurologically Based Chiropractor is to correct something that occurs in the brain, called a neurologic subluxation, or dysponesis. These 2 terms essentially mean that the patient has an "abnormal neurologic pattern." Neurologically Based Chiropractors seek to correct subluxations, or dysponesis, to correct the damage done by a life-time of stress, to restore optimal brain balance and function, and to improve a patient's overall state of well-being and serenity.
In this clinic we utilize several state of the art approaches and techniques including Applied Functional Neurology, Low Level Laser therapy, Auriculotherapy, Bio and Neurofeedback, Ionic Therapy, Amino Acid Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique*, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing*, and Ionic Cleanse. All of these techniques have the common goal of restoring optimal PsychoNeuroPhysiology and a greater state of wholness or well-being. *By referral.
Our work supports -DOES NOT REPLACE-traditional addiction treatment, including a 12-step strategy, counseling, or other generally accepted modalities. Addiction is truly a disease of the Mind, Body, and Spirit, and we increase the chances for longterm recovery and victory when we address as many factors as possible.
