Ionic Footbath (Detox Footbath) Our patients love the footbath! Basically, it works like this: the patient sits (usually in front of our 75 gallon saltwater aquarium) with their feet in a warm bath of water. The water contains some sea salt. Then an electrode (array) is placed in the water and the machine is turned on.
Over the course of the next 23 minutes, an ionic field is created, first positively charged, then negatively charged. The magnetic field facilitates a detox for the patient, through the feet.
Why the feet? There are a lot of toxins stored in the lower extremity. The body naturally stores toxins as far away from the brain as possible. That may be why your feet will smell bad at the end of the day after wearing socks, but your hands don&rsquot smell as bad after wearing gloves.
During the course of the session the water changes colors and gets pretty nasty. Patients get pretty grossed out thinking all of the particles and color changes are coming out of them. That&rsquos not really what is happening. The color change is partly due to normal chemical reactions with the metals of the electrode reacting to each other, and partly due to molecules coming out of the patient.
It is inappropriate to attempt to read anything into the color changes. Some people have tried to tie color changes to specific organs, but this is not substantiated in the scientific literature. However, this does not take anything away from the fact that the machine consistently helps patients to detoxify.
